This started out being color time with my little niece and after she, being small, soon grew weary
- I only kept it going to see how it would finally transform.

America Waves

America Waves
'4 x 7'
Mixed Media
While traveling, a simple snapshot of an elderly lady standing in her front door of a battered home was my focus in creating this piece. I believe she probably lived alone and it touched me deeply as she waved - a drawing of America's reality.

Seedlings

At a yearly art event held in one of the local parks, by chance, with a friend of mine, we met this elderly 70 year old man whom actually acknowledged he was a professional photographer from one of the northern states - somewhere around Pennsylvania or Boston. My friend was a photographer as well and of course, these two struck up a major conversation. This man had traveled around the world more than once and his amazing photography showed evidence of that and was displayed for sale. My friend grabbed his Nikon and took a photo of me standing behind the gentleman leaning on the back of his director's chair. Two weeks or so passed, and while rummaging through photos I ran across it. His weathered image inspired me to create a watercolor graphic (first photo) and then it was eventually transformed into a piece with the words "seedlings" running through the artwork (second photo).  It was titled "seedlings" because I believe we all come from basic seeds intermingled, scattered about and cross mixed keeping us one with the other. Though we were of two different cultures, we actually were not , only a degree of separation.

With a white mat and black shadow box type frame, it sold at an art show.

PATCHES

Patches
'18 x 24'
Watercolor
I'm reminded of the old patchwork quilts my grandmother used to cover me during those very cold nights. Most of those quilts were handmade and handed down from generations of family to family. Regardless of how old they became, they felt so warm and comforting...maybe because somewhere in all patchwork, through the years, there remained many family hands placed around me.

Think in terms of the true nature of an individual(s) being hidden and locked away - yet we constantly trick ourselves into believing we know them. the vibrant colors represent those aspects we will never know - intensity, lulls, highs and genuine thoughts.

Touches of Peace - RE-POSTED

pencil and watercolor
Just had to re-post this piece.
This art piece sold two years ago.
This is a photo of the actual art piece taken at the
time of the art exhibit- unfortunately with a camera glare -
but during these troubled times in the world,
the message is more important and apropos ...
The hand written words in each face are the countries of the world....
it's about the LOVE, the PEACE and the UNITY....BELIEVING...

Basquiat and the Camera

Graphic '6 x 10'

A Chorus Line within A Chorus Line

This is a graphic I created in 2001 using an actual photo we took of the actors in "A Chorus Line" at the Boiler Room Theater and then I focused on each actor individually creating another he/she in my own vision of a graphic character by hand drawing on the computer with my mouse - it's almost as if the REAL actors are looking down at their ART counterparts. A lof of work was involved here and quite tedious- BUT - I have treasured this piece so much!

More warm up sketch exercises - How to Draw What You See by Rudy De Reyna. Cubes, circles, cones and cylinders form all basic shapes and when the eye learns to see it - it becomes so clear.

Going back to basics, I always feel it's good for me, just to sit and sketch on my drawing pad after having been away from it for a while - a warm up in hand exercises - like riding a bike...."How to Draw What You See" by Rudy De Reyna. A good back to basic book and a great reference.

A Moment of Peace by NELSON

'283 x 327' graphic

This is a drawing by "my sister #4" created in MrPicasso Head. She sent to me and I manipulated it so that I could take it from the gallery and place it here. Most of my siblings draw or paint so did my father and mother...so I guess it's definitely hereditary.

~Cards~

'2560 x 1220' graphic

Was inspired recently during July 4th...thinking about college days when we would start a card game, play cards all day long -as one player had to leave for class, someone coming from a class would take that seat....those were the days of old school -games like Spades, 5 up, Red Devil, Pinochle, and the most famous of all...BID WHIZ...and watching family play crazy 8's during the holiday brought back sweet memories entitled "CARDS"

On the Wall

Well, needless to say this is a section of my wall. I enjoy my artwork so much in that it soothes my soul in many ways and keeps me balanced. I created these between 2004-2006 and they are all so very special to me in representing certain periods of my life. The mediums range from pencil, colored pencil, watercolor, graphics and mixed-mediums.

Jackson Pollock by Misssweetsugar

Here are my "Jackson Pollocks" created by me. I went to the web site "Paint your own Jackson Pollock." The first one is "Untitled", the second "Dancers" and the third is entitled "Drizzle". Unfortunately you do have to own a art program to bring it from the web since you cannot save it to the desktop other than a web file. Create your own and find the artist in you! I created the "Pollocks", took a screen print, then pasted it into my art program. Mind you, Adobe would not allow it, but a little bitty program called "Paint" did so and that goes to show...a little engine CAN and WILL...

REALLY? There is really such a place??!!?? I won't touch this one. Not I. Nope. Nada. No way!!
I've got to think about this one.

Paint your own Jackson Pollack

YES...you can actually "paint your own Jackson Pollock"....how bout that? His technique was innovative yet so simplistic. Create your own and find the artist in you...

Head on over to ARTCYCLOPEDIA for some inspiration, some excitement and inspiration. I spend hours on the site as I get caught up in so many aspects. I'm sure you will find this a fascinating place to be. If so, come back and tell me about it..
