Spread the Holiday Cheer-Pop The Cork!!!

Another "Words and letters" drawing done on my Ipod Touch (one of my fav technie gadgets of all times)- I call this sketch .."Spread the Cheer" - time to pop the cork and celebrate the good/bad times gone by and the good/bad times to come. Even during this most stressful economical period, "LIFE, IS STILL A CELEBRATION."

Happy Holidays-Social Networking Shelf 4

Here is Social Networking Shelf #4 and you're probably more associated with a number of these: Facebook, StumbleUpon, Blogger, My Space, Twitter, Google, Delicious, Ebay, Google, Twitter...and Wordpress. I have enjoyed making these though it took time to locate locate all icons/logos featured on this blog, re-size them, frame choice and Voila! I have more ideas as to how I want to create more shelves so be sure and check back...you never know...you might just be on one~~~ ;-))
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Happy Holidays-Social Networking Shelf 3

This is the third shelf I created with more of the social networking icons/logos. Not sure how many I will make but just got a kick out of it during the holidays - time will tell where it ends...I am a Google Wave User...Catch the wave~~~~~~~~~~~~~:-))

Happy Holidays-Social Networking Shelf 2

Just wanted to share one of the three Social Networking shelves I created - I don't belong to all these groups :-) but most familiar with them in some way or another...

Happy Holidays from My Photo Shelf

On the second shelf, there is a Twitter holiday greeting I to share with my Twitter World. The drawing on the second shelft is the age old "Let It Snow" scene I drew back in 2004 along with a photo of me using my daughter's camera without her knowing it..HA....And the photo on the third shelf is from my surprise birthday celebration back in May. All the balloons arrived home safely!!! (Note: In my actual application on my ipod, when you click on the clock, it gives you the actual time at that moment - wayyyy cool)

Attended the annual Tomato Arts Festival last weekend, and while there met an artist (Anna) who pointed out that we had on the same exact sandals. We had a great laugh about it - I asked if I could take a photo of our feet together as one person (we were of two different cultures and I found this to be an artistic moment and couldn't miss it). Since it was the Tomato (typically RED) Arts Festival, had to throw that aspect into this. Going to share with Anna! So, take "A Walk in Our Shoes".

Recalling as a child laying in a large field of grass near my grandfather's house, dotted with flowers and as a gentle breeze arrived, how they would bend and curl...holding on steadfastly...the sight and the feeling was so beautiful...and the flowers were symphonic...where or where was the orchestra?

Edward Mullar

Edgar Mullar - German artist known for his street paintings and he actually uses the street as his canvas. His paintings are optical illusions - three-dimensional images. In this video, you’ll see the making of The Crevasse. Mullar turns this road into an arctic chasm.

A Season is a Season is a Season

Prelude:About a week ago, we had our first sample of SNOW and I do mean sample - didn’t even get a true inch here though some other areas in the state got as much as 8 inches.
As I stood in the doorway watching large flakes of snow fall to the ground the night before, I wondered if there would be enough to even realize that it had snowed at all upon wakening in the morning. Of course, the local weather stations were gearing us all for a big snow advisory SCARE (so typical of our forecasters). After watching the beautiful rhythm of the snow flakes dancing through the air that night, I woke up the following morning to see a mere dash of that white stuff aka SNOW barely clinging to the sidewalk, grassy areas and parking lot where I live. I thought about grabbing my camera but decided to wait just a little while before snapping that Kodak moment.

In about two hours I remembered that I had not taken a photo of the brief snow arrival so I decided to photograph the area out back (little did I know that the sun had already visited and the snow had begun to melt). Mind you there was still a residue of fallen leaves that had been raked up and ready to bag. When I looked out….I was amazed at what I saw - I could not have taken a more unique photo - Three seasons in one (Winter, Fall and Spring)!!! (By the way I will be getting those leaves out of the way…soon)… :0)

Florida Highwaymen

I ran across an article entitled "The Highwaymen" by Elizabeth Hoover. This article was about a group of young self-taught black artists in the midst of racial strife in the 1950's - 1960's who painted Florida landscapes. Their works were their way of a deflection against the times of despair. The original members were James Gibson, Alfred Hair, Harold Newton and Livingston Roberts - two of this group formed a relationship with a white painter/artist Albert Backus and eventually labeled themselves "The Highwaymen" who painted sometimes only from memory, and who sold these beautiful paintings from the trunks of their cars. What's even more interesting and is that out of the 26 Highwaymen, there was only one female, Mary Ann Carroll. Their works are breathtakingly surreal and a wonderful historic tribute to Florida's natural beauty.

A Heart Awaits

The Story Behind The Photo:
For the past 2 years, my artsy daughter and I have created baskets/gifts for various holiday occasions (i.e., Valentine's Day, Easter, Mothers Day and other special occasions) including church fundraiser events, personal orders, etc. delivering to homes and even to nursing home residents. Most of the items gathered for the baskets are bought off season and stored away which saves on costs. Examples of contents are candies of various sorts, brownies, strawberry cupcakes, novelty items , stuffed animals, and her hand dipped Granny Smith apples in dark chocolate, caramel, white chocolate, pecans, walnuts, M&Ms, toffee, chocolate chip, butterscotch and the list goes on. She has branded her product - My Adam's Apples . I must admit it took a while but she has perfected her technique and they are delicious!
WE both really enjoy creativity and exploring new ideas but I must admit sometimes I am wrangled into projects without knowing but to be totally honest, as long as it's for a good cause, I easily bend and I'm in.
So, the above is a photo of the gift tags I created for the Valentine's Day Baskets/Gifts that are going out this week. These tags are made from card stock, ribbon, wire, foam cut outs, and magazines. After creating so many tags by hand and tossing them in a large gold bowl, the colors were so vibrant - I saw a possible artistic photo opportunity. ...
And, out there a heart waits for the gift/basket with one of these tags on this upcoming Valentine's Day....

Secretary of Art

I received this email from one of my local art groups (Art Talk) of which I belong and thought I would share it:

You may have already received this from someone else, but it is so important, we're passing it along.

Quincy Jones has started a petition to try and influence President Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. Please take a moment to go to the sight and sign at
www.petitiononline.com/esnyc/petition.html

This is very important. Many other countries have had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries. The United States has never appointed a person to represent the Arts. We in the Arts need this, and the country needs the Arts--now more than ever.

Please take a moment to sign this important petition, and pass it on to everyone on your e-mail list.
Thank you.
